Although it sounds like a mouthful, the idea behind this project is simple (I just need a better name!). Quite simply, the goal is to have an open phone number people can call, which will allow users/performers to interact live with a constantly mixing and re-sampling of sound.
The sound would be broadcast in a variety of ways simultaneously. First, in a physical space, where the sound would resonate out of multiple channel outputs. Second, over the internet in a streaming broadcast. Last, over the phone, but not while they perform.
Once a player is in a phone call with the composition, it would act as a low-quality microphone, taking their incoming sound (which could be spoken word, humming, singing, even button dialing) and playing it live. After which, the sound is given random looping intervals to play, where it will shift towards one of the multiple channel outputs.
Additionally, each sound recorded would evolve over time, growing in the effective amount of overtones and harmonies it generates. Based on its general relative frequencies, new frequencies would be mixed in with it while it is continually being blended in with other like tonalities.
This would create a dynamic, user-centric composition which is only guided by the instrument of performers as a whole.
